What we buy

Seiko spans one of the widest ranges of any watch brand — from entry-level quartz to Grand Seiko movements that rival Swiss manufacture calibres. We assess every category individually, by reference and condition, against current secondary market prices.

Grand Seiko

The premium Seiko sub-brand with its own movement manufacture — Spring Drive, Hi-Beat 36000, and manual-wind calibres. SBGR, SBGA, SBGW, SBGH references. Spring Drive movements command premiums. Grand Seiko dials — Snowflake, Birch Forest, Seasons — assessed individually. Grand Seiko has appreciated significantly in recent years and is priced against its own secondary market, not against Seiko broadly.

Prospex & Marinemaster

Professional divers including the Marinemaster 300 (SBDX), Tuna cans (SBBN), and the modern Prospex range. The MM300 is a confirmed collector favourite with strong secondary demand. Vintage Prospex divers — the 6159 and 6105 — are specifically sought by serious collectors. The LX line is assessed separately for its higher finishing level.

SKX & vintage divers

The discontinued SKX007 and SKX009 have become highly collected since Seiko ended production in 2019. 6309 Turtle divers, 6105 divers, and 6159 references from the 1970s are serious collector pieces. Condition of the bezel insert and dial patina is critical on vintage examples — we assess each watch for originality, not just model.

Presage

Seiko's mid-range display-back mechanical line. Enamel dial Presage (SARW, SPB) and Cocktail Time models attract genuine collector interest. Limited editions with textured dials command premiums. The Presage range is moving into independent collector territory and is no longer treated as generic mid-market Seiko.

Seiko 5 Sports

The revived Seiko 5 Sports range with updated designs. More limited releases and street-collaboration editions — including the Street Fighter series — attract secondary demand above retail. Standard production pieces are valued modestly. We distinguish limited and collab editions from the general production range.

Vintage Seiko (pre-1980)

Lord Marvel, King Seiko, vintage Seiko-matic, 5740 and 5719 chronographs, early divers. A specialist collecting category with active international demand. Movement condition, dial originality, and case condition are all individually assessed. Pre-quartz Seiko is one of the most consistently underpriced categories in the UK market.

Why Grand Seiko deserves proper assessment

Grand Seiko was historically undervalued in Western markets — treated as a premium Seiko rather than as what it actually is: a manufacture-level watchmaker producing movements of genuine technical distinction. That perception has shifted substantially over the past decade, and secondary market prices have followed.

Spring Drive movements — which combine a mechanical mainspring with a quartz regulator using Seiko's proprietary tri-synchro regulator — are technically distinctive in a way that has no equivalent in Swiss watchmaking. Hi-Beat 36000 movements, beating at ten beats per second, represent a different engineering approach to accuracy. These are not commodity movements.

Grand Seiko dials — the Snowflake, the Birch Forest, the Seasons series — are produced using traditional Japanese craft techniques including urushi lacquer and enamel. Cases are finished using zaratsu hand-polishing, a technique that produces a mirror clarity comparable to much more expensive Swiss watches. We price every Grand Seiko reference against current secondary market data, not against a generic Seiko valuation.

Vintage Seiko — the most undervalued watches in the hobby

Pre-quartz Seiko from the 1960s and 1970s are genuine collector pieces underpriced by most UK buyers. The 6139 Pogue — worn by Colonel William Pogue on the Skylab mission, the first watch worn in space — has an active international collector market. The 6105 diver, known from Apocalypse Now, is a period piece with documented cultural significance. Lord Marvel dress watches from this era represent Seiko's finest pre-modern horological output.

UK generalist buyers typically cannot distinguish these references from standard vintage Seiko production. We can, and we price accordingly. Condition matters enormously on pre-1980 Seiko: original dials with appropriate patina, unpolished cases, original bracelets with correct end-links, and unmodified movements all affect value significantly. Send us photographs and we will tell you exactly what you have before you send anything.

The process

Four steps to your Seiko valuation

Step 01

Photograph your watch

Clear shots of dial, case, caseback, bracelet, and any box or papers. For vintage pieces, close-ups of the dial, bezel insert, and movement (if accessible) are helpful. Email these before sending anything — we will advise on what you have.

Step 02

Request your free postage pack

We send a free prepaid, tracked and insured shipping label. Your watch is insured to £5,000 from the moment the courier scans it — no extra cost, no form to fill in.

Step 03

Live YouTube opening

Your parcel is opened publicly on YouTube before any specialist touches it. Condition is recorded exactly as received. No disputes about what arrived.

Step 04

Written offer per reference

Reference confirmed, condition noted, secondary market checked. Written offer with our reasoning. Accept what you want to sell; we return the rest free. Payment in 72 hours or +3%.

Is Grand Seiko worth significantly more than standard Seiko?

Yes — Grand Seiko is a separate brand with manufacture movements. Spring Drive models combining mechanical and quartz principles are technically distinctive and command real premiums. Grand Seiko dials — Snowflake, Birch Forest, Seasons — are assessed individually. We price Grand Seiko against its own secondary market, not against Seiko broadly.

My SKX007 is discontinued — is it worth more now?

Yes. Seiko discontinued the SKX007 and SKX009 in 2019 and secondary prices have risen meaningfully since then. Condition and originality matter significantly: original bezel insert, unpolished case, and original bracelet all affect value. We assess every SKX on its actual condition, not a blanket market price.

Is vintage Seiko undervalued by most UK buyers?

Yes — consistently. Generalist buyers treat all Seiko the same. We know the 6139 Pogue from a Seiko 5, the 6105 diver from a modern reissue, and the Lord Marvel from a generic dress watch. Pre-quartz Seiko from the 1960s and 1970s has active international collector demand and we price against that market.

Does a non-original bracelet affect value?

Yes for vintage pieces. Original Seiko Jubilee-style and Oyster-style bracelets with correct end-links add meaningful value to vintage Seiko divers and dress watches. A generic aftermarket bracelet is a deduction. For modern Seiko the impact is less severe, but original equipment is always noted in our assessment.

Do I need the original box and papers?

A complete set with original box, inner box, hang tags, and warranty card adds value — particularly for Grand Seiko and desirable Prospex references. We also buy without box and papers; they are not a condition of sale. Just note what you have when you contact us.

How quickly will I be paid?

Within 72 hours of your parcel going live on YouTube — guaranteed. If we miss that window, we add 3% to your total, written into the agreement before you send anything.
