Vintage fountain pens, propelling pencils, desk sets, and writing instruments — individually assessed for maker, model, nib grade, filling system, and condition. Writing or non-writing. Single pens or complete collections.
A Montblanc 149 or a Parker Vacumatic is a collectible object with its own market — not a piece of office equipment. We assess vintage pens on collector criteria, not as stationery. Free insured postage. Written valuation per pen. Paid in 72 hours.
The vintage pen market is highly maker- and model-specific. These are the brands and types we assess with the deepest knowledge — and where we can make offers that reflect actual collector market values.
Pre-war hard rubber and celluloid models, the post-war 149 and 146 meisterstück series, lever-fill and piston-fill variants. Overlaid silver and gold models from the 1920s and 1930s are particularly sought. Nib size, flexibility, and gold content all factor into the offer.
The red hard rubber Duofold (1920s), the celluloid Vacumatic (1930s–1940s), and the 51 (the best-selling fountain pen of the 20th century). Parker 51 values vary significantly by year, material, and whether the pen is Vacumatic or Aerometric filled. We know the variants.
Waterman's Ideal and Patrician from the 1920s and 1930s — particularly mottled rubber and lever-fill models. Waterman also produced fine overlay work in gold and silver. The 52 and 32 models with original overlays are especially collected.
British maker from Holborn, London — active from 1905 through the 1970s. The Duro, Churchill, and Dinkie series in mottled celluloid are the most collected. Churchill models with broad nibs are particularly sought by British pen enthusiasts. We assess Conway Stewart for model, nib, and condition.
Another British maker, producing the Swan brand — lever-fill pens in black hard rubber and later celluloid, from the 1890s through the 1950s. Early eyedropper-fill hard rubber Swans are among the oldest collectable British pens. Nib quality on Swan pens is often excellent.
The highest-value category in vintage fountain pens — Japanese lacquerwork pens sold through Alfred Dunhill's London shops from the 1920s and 1930s. Maki-e lacquer decoration depicting natural subjects is painstakingly hand-applied. Fine examples can command very significant sums. We assess Dunhill-Namiki for lacquer quality, subject, and condition.

Get your free pack →Montblanc — particularly pre-war and early post-war models — is the most consistently sought-after. Parker Vacumatic and Duofold, Waterman Ideal and Patrician, and British makers Conway Stewart and Mabie Todd all have dedicated collector markets. Dunhill-Namiki maki-e lacquer pens are among the highest-value vintage writing instruments.
Not necessarily. Non-writing vintage pens are not without value — a cracked sac is a simple restoration task. A damaged nib reduces value more significantly. We assess the pen for what it is and reflect condition accurately in our written offer.
Look for the maker's name on the clip or nib. The white star at the cap top indicates Montblanc. Email us a clear photograph of the clip, nib, and barrel — we will identify it before you send anything.
Yes. Vintage propelling pencils by Montblanc, Parker, Waterman, and Dupont — particularly gold and silver examples in matching sets — are assessed. Inkwells, desk sets, and dip pens are also considered.
Yes, materially. A complete pen and pencil set in original presentation box with original papers is worth more than the same set without its case. Original boxes in good condition are increasingly rare and add both financial and historical value.
